Hyperthermia and hypothermia: Interstitial and intracavity hyperthermia as part of oncological treatment

An area of your body was heated as part of cancer treatment.

The tissue in the body is made up of cells. With cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing.

A thin rod was inserted into your body through a natural opening in the body or through soft tissue. The rod was pushed through to where the cancer cells were. The tip of the rod was then heated. This enables the cancer cells to be heated directly from the inside out. Cancer cells react more sensitively to heat than normal cells in the body. This makes cancer cells more susceptible to further treatment and they are also broken down by the body itself more quickly.
