Removal and restoration of teeth: Root tip resection and root canal treatment: Root canal treatment
You have had root canal treatment.
Every tooth consists of 3 sections: the crown, the tooth neck (cervix) and the tooth root. The crown is the visible part of the tooth. The tooth neck is covered by the gums. The tooth root keeps the tooth in the jawbone. Every tooth has a hollow interior. Connective tissue as well as nerves and blood vessels are found inside a tooth. The hollow space inside a tooth’s root is called the root canal.
Your root canal treatment involved opening the crown. The diseased part of the inside of the tooth was removed from the hollow space in the tooth. The hollow space was then cleaned and disinfected. The root canal was filled in and sealed. Usually, crown treatment, for example with an artificial crown or bridge, is then required.
