5-181.9:
Operations on auricle and external auditory canal: Excision and destruction of diseased tissue from the outer ear: Excision and/or destruction of the bony external auricular canal
You have had diseased tissue on the bone of the external auditory canal removed or destroyed during an operation.
The ear is a sensory organ that is used to hear and to maintain one’s balance. There are 3 different areas in the ear: the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear. The outer ear begins at the auricle and then becomes the external auricular canal. The end of the external auricular canal is sealed by a thin membrane. This membrane is known as the eardrum.
To destroy diseased tissue, electricity or cold, for example, is used, preventing this tissue from spreading further.
