Der Glaskörper im Auge besteht aus einer durchsichtigen, gelartigen Flüssigkeit. Er ist von einer dünnen Haut umgeben und füllt den gesamten hinteren Bereich des Auges aus. Auf diese Weise gibt er dem Auge seine Form.

Die entnommene Probe kann Gewebe oder Flüssigkeit sein. Man kann sie anschließend im Labor untersuchen.
