I70.26: Atherosclerosis of arteries of extremities: shoulder-arm type, all stages
You have plaque buildup in arteries in your shoulder area, arms or hands.
Arteries are blood vessels that transport blood away from the heart. They supply all the tissue in the body with oxygen-rich blood. In your case, fats and calcium have been deposited in the wall of the affected arteries. This can make the walls of the affected arteries harder and thicker.
The deposits can also cause the arteries to get narrower. A narrowing can cause an insufficient blood flow to the shoulders, arms or hands. Various symptoms may arise as a result. The muscles in your shoulders, arms or hands may get sore as a result of doing something strenuous. The skin may tingle or be numb. If the blood supply to the skin is poor, wounds in the affected area may not heal as well.
Various risk factors can favor deposits in blood vessels. These include, for example, smoking, obesity, and high blood pressure.
