E87.8: Other disorders of electrolyte and fluid balance, not elsewhere classified
The levels of water or minerals in your body have changed.
A certain level of minerals and fluid must be present in the blood for the body to be able to work normally. The minerals are dissolved in the blood. The levels of minerals in the blood affect the amount of fluid that is in the body. Conversely, the amount of fluid also affects how many minerals are in the blood. Various places in the body measure how much fluid is present in it. There are such measuring stations for instance in the kidneys and in the right heart atrium.
The balance of water and minerals in the blood is influenced by many organs. The kidneys play an important role in this. The kidneys control how much fluid is excreted. The kidneys also control the levels of minerals in the blood. There are also a lot of messenger substances that regulate the balance of water and minerals in the blood. These messenger substances are created by the kidneys, brain and heart, for example.
