OPS-Code 8-146.1:

Other forms of therapeutic catheterization and cannulation: Therapeutic drainage of organs of the abdominal cavity: Gallbladder

A tube was inserted into your gallbladder.

The gallbladder is in the top right part of the abdomen below the liver. The liver produces bile. The bile flows through bile ducts to the gallbladder and is stored there. When needed, the bile flows through another bile duct to the intestine. There, the bile helps to digest fats.

The tube can be used, for example, to drain any fluid, blood or pus that has collected. The tube is usually inserted into the gallbladder through a small incision in the skin. The tube is connected to a receptacle and it can remain in your body for a few days.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
