Die Wirbelsäule besteht aus den einzelnen Wirbeln. Zwischen 2 Wirbeln liegt jeweils eine Bandscheibe. Wirbel haben oben und unten 2 seitliche Knochenfortsätze. Diese seitlichen Knochenfortsätze bilden mit den Knochenfortsätzen benachbarter Wirbel die kleinen Wirbelgelenke. Über die Wirbelgelenke sind benachbarte Wirbel miteinander verbunden.
